The Electoral Commission of Zambia (ECZ) is seeking greater collaborations and support from stakeholders to deliver a better and inclusive electoral process in 2019.
In a statement this morning, ECZ Public Relations Manager Margaret Chimanse said the commission endeavored to deliver an enhanced electoral process to the Zambian people and build greater confidence in national systems.
Chimanse said elections were never a single day’s event but. Composed of various processes within a five (5) year electoral cycle that are integral prior to the day of voting.
“ These processes include delimitation, thus, the demarcating of boundaries for constituencies, wards and polling districts in order for voters to have better accessibility of polling stations, voter registration, candidate nomination, accreditation of observers, election day, results tabulation, post-election review processes to learn and improve the process for subsequent elections or by-elections, amongst others,” she said.
Chimanse said in view of this, the commission intended to undertake the processes leading to 2021 elections starting with delimitation in 2019; conventional and online voter registration in 2020 and general elections on 12th August 2021 as provided for in the constitution.
She said the commission would also be bound by the Zambia Public Procurement (Amendment) Act No. 15 of 2011 in regards to procurement of materials required to conduct an electoral process that was credible.
Chimanse assured that international competitive bidding would be adhered to in order to enhance accountability.
