OPPOSITION Socialist Party General Secretary Dr Cosmas Musumali has demanded for the repeal of the Public Order Act (POA) as it is not only retrogressive but repressive.

In an interview with NewsDayZambia.com this morning, Dr Musumali explained that the POA is a piece of legislation that does not deserve a place in this era.

“There are no other several options to dealing with the Public Order Act other than scrapping it off,” said Dr Musumali.

Dr Musumali added that the public order act was against all virtues of democracy.

“The public order act in its current form legitimizes governments that are not just but also unpopular, the way out is to ensure that this piece of legislation is repealed,” he said.

Dr Musumali also explained that the current laws of the country that deal with issues of crime and a number of other measures are sufficient to deal with issues that occur in society.

“Zambia today  does not  need this piece of  law and politicians have to realize that power which is based  on fear and intimidation is one that  cannot last,” said Dr Musumali.
