Kambwili arrested, denied police bond

Police in Luanshya have denied bond to National Democratic Congress (NDC) consultant Chishimba Kambwili after formally arresting and charging him for unlawful assembly.

NDC acting spokesperson Misheck Moyo said Kambwili will appear in the Luanshya magistrates court tomorrow, November 30, 2018.

“Police have denied the NDC 2021 presidential candidate police bond despite meeting all the necessary legal requirements. The arrest of the NDC leader means he will have to skip court in another case tomorrow,” said Moyo.

Moyo said Kambwili was questioned for over two hours at Luanshya central police before formally being arrested.

Meanwhile, opposition United Party for National Development leader Hakainde Hichilema has called for the immediate release of Kambwili from police custody.

Hichilema said the harassment of Kambwili and other opposition leaders by the PF government should stop, especially when the dialogue process was underway.

“As far as we are concerned, Dr. Kambwili did not refuse to answer the police call out in Luanshya. All he did was to merely request for a date next week so he could attend to court matters in Lusaka tomorrow,” said Hichilema.

He said there was no need to bundle him like an armed bandit this morning and drive him to Luanshya police.
