Lundazi pregnant women in verbal abuse
By Staff Reporter
Some pregnant women in Lundazi district have accused female health workers at Lundazi urban clinic of verbally abusing them when they go for antenatal care.
One of the women, who did not want to be mentioned told journalists that it was disheartening that despite emphasis to have pregnant women attend antenatal services, some health workers were making it difficult because of sarcastic language.
“Currently it is hard to open up to some nurses in cases of any unusual occurrences in pregnancy for fear of being insulted,” said the woman.
And Lundazi district medical director Davy Zulu, confirmed receiving such complaints.
Dr Zulu however said it had been hard to deal with the health workers involved since reports were usually generalised.
“It is important to take note of specific information that will help to discipline the people involved,” said Zulu.
