The Socialist Party says it is not ready to contest any by–election in the country.
In an interview with Newsday Zambia, 2021 presidential candidate Fred M‘membe said the party had no structures in most parts of the country, including Mangangowhere a parliamentary by-election is due this month .
“It is not worth it to contest a by–election; it’s expensive and we cannot derail our party programme.
He explained that instead, members had concentrated on building the party on a daily basis.
“We are mobilising and building structures so as to stand a better chance in 2021 than wasting resources on a by–election,’’ he said.
“As a party we have values such as ,honest, equity, humility and solidarity.”
He explained that the party’s first priorities were children and women.
“Women are waging double battles, they are fighting capitalist exploitation, humiliation and oppression,’’ said M’membe.
He said the party would not compromise quality for quantity.
