M’membe mourns Kafula

Socialist Party 2021 presidential candidate Dr Fred M’membe was among thousands of mourners who attended the funeral of veteran and female pioneer of Zamrock music, Violet Kafula.
Kafula whose music career spanning from 1970’s to 1990s died at University Teaching Hospital (UTH) on Tuesday evening, August 7, after losing a battle to cancer.
The requiem mass was conducted at Mary Immaculate Catholic Church on Leopards Hills Road this morning before burial at Memorial Park Cemetery.
Violet joined Crossbones Band when she was 17 years old and went to sing alongside greats like Nicky Mwanza.
Veteran musician Ricky Ililonga of the same era of the industry described Violet as a living influence on the Zambian music industry.
Kafula’s music and fame reached its peak with the hit single, Mwebalume bandi, which enjoyed airplay and very high record sales of more than 14,000.
In the early 90’s Violet continued making appearances for live shows and supporting upcoming musicians.
