Two Mpulungu council employees die in road accident

Two Mpulungu council employees on Sunday died in a road accident when the vehicle there where travelling in lost control and overturned at Senga Hill as the driver swaved in an effort to avoid an oncoming truck that had partially covered their lane.
In a statement to the media this morning, Mpulungu Town Council public relations officer Josephine Kapinga confirmed the death of the two employees who were travelling together with other passengers in a Toyota Hilux registration number ALH 8500.
“The officers were on their way from Lusaka where they had gone to carry out official duty, the accident claimed the lives of Mpulungu Town Council driver, Brian Silupya who died on spot and the Town Council’s assistant committee clerk, Maxim Chilufya who died later at Senga Hills hospital after having been evacuated amongst the other victims,” said Kapinga.
She said the other victims involved in the accident included Mpulungu Town’s Council Chairman Deo Sichilengwe, Mpulungu Town Council’s Deputy Director of Works Nkumbu Katongola and Mpulungu Town Council’s Driver Fenwick Simukonda.
“The Deputy Director of Works and the driver were moved to Kasama Hospital due to their critical conditions but the Council Chairperson stabilised and was later discharged from Mbala Hospital. The bodies of Mr. Silupya and Mr. Chilufya are lying in Mpulungu Clinic mortuary and Senga Hospital mortuary respectively, pending burial,” she said.
