Loosing Lusangazi council chairmanship candidate to petition election results

Losing Lusangazi District Council Chairperson independent candidate Patrick Menyani Banda is not convinced that PF candidate won last Thursday’s elections in a free and fair manner.

In an interview, Banda said he would petition the poll results claiming he had enough evidence to prove his case in court.

“Amongst the many other reasons included the fact that the PF campaign camp remained open and operated even on the polling day and voters were being given money and other materials,” said banda

Banda said on July 14, he was attacked and admitted in hospital while his cousin was shot at by some known PF cadres.  He said although he identified some of the people who attacked him and a mobile phone that was dropped at the scene was handed over to Petauke Police, the perpetrators went scot-free.

“The PF cadres criminally got away with my vehicle, Public Address speakers and K80,000 cash which I was using in the field for campaign, even after being discharged from St Francis Hospital, the PF cadres continued blocking me from carrying out my campaign freely, when I wanted to reach places like Chibale, Mileka, Village 73 and Malumbe as the PF cadres were blocking roads with land cruisers while brandishing pistols,” he said.

Banda said William Banda would have an opportunity of explaining in Court how he won the election in the midst of malpratices.
