Miles Sampa is new Lusaka Mayor after polling 81,936 votes amidst apathy in the mayoral by-election conducted on Thursday.

The election was characterised by heavy apathy, recording only about 25 percent of the total registered voters in Lusaka district.

Opposition’s Kangwa Chileshe came second with about 36,753 votes followed by Mundia Mukubesa of the People’s Alliance for Change who polled 7,741 while Saboi Imboela of the National Democratic Congress got 2,645 votes.

Sampa’s total number of votes is only representative of registered number of voters in constituencies such as Mandevu.
