Zambian govt to use WW1-tied event to ‘develop’ its Northern Province

Government authorities in Zambia’s Northern Province want to take advantage of the region’s hosting of events marking a century since the end of the First World War to unlock economic investment opportunities.
According to the Northern Province Tourism and Investment Expo Facebook page, the event slated for Mbala – formerly Abercorn – this November, is being organised inconjunction with the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA).
In their own words, they posted as follows on Thursday:
Zambia and the Northern Province, in particular, will on 25th November, 2018 host the global community for the commemoration of 100 years since the end of the First World War. The prestigious event will take place in Mbala district- town formerly known as Abercorn – where the war ended on 25th November, 1918.
Considering the historic nature of the event and also taking into account that a good number of local and foreign dignitaries will be in attendance, the Provincial Administration has decided to take advantage of the activity to also host an Investment and Tourism promotion as a build up to the centenary celebration.
The Northern Province Expo is slated for 20th – 24th November, 2018 under the theme: ‘Unlocking the tourism and investment potential of Northern Province 100 years after the end of the First World War’.
In partnership with the Zambia Development Agency (ZDA), the provincial administration has packaged some specific project proposals with pertinent details to be provided to targeted local and foreign investors who will then be able to make informed decisions by the time they attend the event.
Some of the proposed projects packaged for the event include; the development of industrial parks, expansion and upgrading of Mpulungu Harbour, development of Kasaba Bay Tourism Resort, establishment of farm blocks and establishment of hotel chains around tourist sites, among others.
