Parents frustrate early marriage fights – Muleya
By Staff Reporter
The Human Rights Commission says that some parents and guardians are frustrating the fight against early marriages.
Chief Information Education and Training Officer, Mwelwa Muleya said some parents and guardians are the ones encouraging their children to get married early.
“The commission has also encountered situations where those who were forced into early marriages have refused to be withdrawn from such marriages,” said Muleya
Speaking during a discussion forum aimed at protection of Fundamental Human Rights and Freedoms in Chipata, Muleya described early marriages as a big problem.
“am advising victims of torture to ensure that they obtain a medical report from a qualified doctor if they want to have a good case, the commission has encountered situations were victims of torture have lost out due to insufficient evidence,” he said.
