Family representative speech curtailed at Black Mountain burial

Four of the ten victims who lost their lives at the Back Mountain tragedy have finally been laid to rest at Chingola Road Cemetery.
Speaking on behalf of the government, Copperbelt minister Japhen Mwakalombe, said government was saddened by “the loss of our boys”.
“President Edgar Lungu has sent me to deliver a message of condolence to the bereaved families. We are with you and we will see what we can do after the funeral,” Mwakalombe said.
A family representative who spoke passionately about the tragic death of his son was technically curtailed.
No sooner had he began to talk about the shortcomings of the government than the microphone went off and that is how the speech ended.
“Ok, bashikulu, microphone yafwa, kabiyeni,” he was told.
“By and large, this event has dealt a hard blow on the PF. It is an event that has caused massive embarrassment to the PF leadership. Calling the victims scavengers, criminals while on the other hand they are saying that they are concerned as government at the tragic loss of lives is but a huge contradiction,” a resident told Newsday Zambia.
