TROUBLED Napsa Stars Football Club have fired coach Elijah Chikwanda and his two assistants, the second time the Lusaka-based club is changing its technical bench this season.

In 18 games played so far, Napsa Stars has won only once against Zanaco FC, drew seven times and recorded 10 losses.

The team is placed second from bottom with an insignificant 10 points.

In a possibly frantic move to improve the performance of the team, the board and management of Napsa Stars announced that Chikwanda and his two assistants, Chabby Chabala and Sipho Mumbi, have been relieved of their duties “with immediate effect.”

“A new technical team is being considered and will be announced soon,” a press release dated June 19 stated.

According to the press release, Napsa Stars board chairperson Stanley Zingani Phiri thanked Chikwanda, Chabala and Mumbi for their contribution to the club but reiterated that the decision to part ways with the trio had become necessary in order to improve the performance of the team.

“We have looked at all the options and we resolved that it was important to enhance the coaching bench to improve the team’s performance. We are in the process of engaging a new technical bench that will take charge of the team going forward. I would like to thank the coach and his two assistants for their contribution to the club and wish them good luck,” said Phiri.

In April this year, Napsa Stars FC ‘fired’ its coach, Linos Makwaza and his two assistants, Dabwitso Nkhoma and Harry Milanzi who had taken the reign at the club in September 2017.

Makwaza and his assistants took over, in an interim capacity, from Tenant Chilumba who was sidelined. They were employed on a permanent basis in February this year.
