Germany funds water project in Chipata

The German government has given the Eastern Water and Sewerage Company K120M to replace about 280 kilometres obsolete water pipes in Chipata District.
Eastern Water and Sewerage Company managing director Lytone Kanowa, announced this during the Keep Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy campaign stakeholders meeting in Chipata.
“Getting the funding wouldn’t have been possible if structures that were built on top of the company pipeline were not demolished, out of the 109 structures that had built on top of company’s lines, 97 have so far been either demolished or the pipe lines diverted,” said Kanowa.
He said replacing the old asbestos pipe lines would reduce the amount of non-revenue water that is lost through leakages.
“the company will then be able to supply water to its customers for 24 hours, the company hopes that it will be able to add 5000 new customers by the end of the project,” he said.
