Tougher days ahead, warns Musokotwane

Opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) finance and economic affairs Chairperson, Situmbeko Musokotwane has warned of tougher days ahead for Zambia’s economy.
Dr Musokotwane, a renowed economist and former finance minister in the Rupiah Banda administration, said Zambians were yet to feel the real impact of government’s rising debt margins.
He predicted that the government would focus more on debt servicing, a situation that would negatively impact the civil service and the general public economically.
“Government has committed to so many loans without any practical means of paying back. Foreign investors, especially from the United Kingdom are skeptical of investing in Zambia because of the level of debt,” said Dr Musokotwane.
