Revise anti violence methods, NGO advises govt

Zambia Corruption Prevention Watchdog (ZCPW) has urged government to revise its approach towards fighting electoral violence, citing electoral corruption as the main cause of the vice in the country’s electoral systems.
ZCPW director, Jonathan Muchindu said fighting electoral violence with guns would not in any way solve anything, but only fuel more violence.
Muchindu has since urged government to invest more resources in sensitising the public on the dangers of electoral corruption.
“No need of using guns on defenseless people in efforts to end the violence that can be stopped by equipping people with necessary information about the dangers of these vices. I have also observed that politicians who use bribes on people in an election are more likely to perpetrate violence when they discover their corrupt investment is lost through an electoral outcome,” said Muchindu.
