Namibian national arrested in Senanga

Senanga police have arrested a Namibian truck driver for allegedly shooting dead a security officer at Maziba Bridge checkpoint in Sioma district of the Western Province.

Sioma district commissioner Maurice Litula, confirmed in a Facebook posting on Monday that the circumstances behind the fatal shooting incident were still being investigated.

“We have lost our security officer at our Maziba check point, he has been shot by a truck driver from Namibia… The truck driver has been apprehended in Senanga just now….condolences to all the sioma pipo,” Litula’s post read.

Due to the deplorable state of the Sesheke-Livingstone road, truckers from the Namibian port of Walvis Bay have resorted to using the Sesheke-Senanga road to connect to the Mongu-Lusaka road via the Western provincial capital, Mongu.

However, some of those who reacted to Litula’s news have called on the government to bar Namibian truckers from using the alternative route in view of the shooting incident.
