By Staff Reporter
The government has finally lifted the fish ban it imposed on December 1 last year in all major fishing areas across the country.
On March 1 this year, health minister Chitalu Chilufya lifted the ban in selected fishing areas, a move that angered communities in places like Luapula Province.
Recently, memberds f parliament grilled Dr Chilufya over the same, but he attributed the decision to continued cases of cholera outbreaks in certain parts of the country.
And on Sunday, Dr Chilufya finally announced that the ban had been lifted in all fishing zones across the country.
Addressing journalists with his livestock and fisheries counterpart Kampamba Mulenga, Dr Chilufya said the cholera situation had now been contained.
“We met as a task force and reviewed measures that have been implemented and also reviewed the reports from the various multi sectoral task force teams in the many districts and have arrived at decisions which we are going to announce today. We are going to take responsibility as a multi sectoral task force collectively,” said Dr Chilufya.
