Opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) national youth leader Charles Kabwita has challenged youths across the country to turn up in commemoration of the youth day, which falls today.

Kabwita said that 80% of youths in Zambia are jobless and leave under extreme poverty and his party.

“Unfortunately, our youths are perceived as tools of political violence, so many pronounments and promises have been made to our youths by those in authority but nothing tangible has been done to alleviate their challenges,” said Kabwita. “We are concerned that the most productive age group in this country are passing through tough economic times and hardships, our youths are usually given handouts and beer during campaigns. In short, our youths have being used and abused by those yielding authority for their own gains”.

Kabwita said the PF government did not have any clear agenda for empowerment of young persons as the majority of them cant access business loans from lending institutions.

He said access to government support was limited to cadres who were aligned to the ruling party and those holding different political affiliation were left out.
