Organise Youth Skills and Activities Into Cooperatives – PMRC

By Staff Reporter

Zambia’s biggest research think tank, Policy Monitoring and Research Centre (PMRC) says involving skilled youths in cooperatives is key to Zambia’s economic development as opposed to the current situation in the country.

Speaking during a public lecture on the state of the economy held at Choma Trades Training Institute, PMRC Head of Research, Salim Kaunda said  Zambia had many skilled young people but were in the informal sector.

“Grouping of these skilled men and women in the informal sector to form cooperatives is one way they can contribute to the nation’s tax collection exercise,” said Kaunda

And PMRC Senior Researcher, Miselo Bwalya said the reduction in lending rates would encourage many entrepreneurs to access loans for investments, which would further boost the economy.
