Mpezeni leaves palace

Paramount chief Mpezeni IV of the Ngoni people in Eastern Province on Thursday afternoon left his Ephendukeni palace in Feni for Laweni in Mtenguleni ahead of the Nc’wala traditional ceremony tomorrow.

The annual ceremony is practiced in the provincial capital, Chipata, in honour of the victories the Ngoni warriors scored on their way to Zambia as they migrated from South Africa in the late 20th Century.

Hundreds of local and international tourists flock to the ceremony every year, including senior government officials.

President Edgar Lungu is expected to be the guest of honour at this year’s ceremony.
