Siavonga taxi drivers protest road mending, demand resurface

The Road Development Agency (RDA) will continue mending township roads in Siavonga, despite taxi drivers protesting against the exercise.
Taxi drivers and other members of society have protested mending of roads in the Southern Province district, demanding that RDA should instead do a complete facelift.
Siavonga district commissioner Lovemore Kanyama told journalists on Friday that some individuals were busy inciting innocent taxi drivers to protest against the mending of roads.
“For now RDA will continue mending the roads, and I expect Siavonga residents to coordinate and give total support to RDA as they mend the roads. To our taxi drivers, ignore calls coming from politicians who want to cause confusion in the district by inciting the drivers to protest against the mending of the roads,” said Kanyama.
“I’m urging taxi drivers to demand for the involvement of the politicians’ families behind in the protest so that they equally face the law. Full resurfacing of the roads will continue when funds are available. It’s government’s obligation to rehabilitate roads and other infrastructure.”
Kanyama vowed not to allow politicization of the exercise, warning that those doing so would be arrested.
