12 criminals arrested in Lusaka

Police in Lusaka have arrested 12 suspected criminals believed to be behind a spate of crimes in Chilenje, Chalala and shopping malls in Lusaka.
Police spokesperson Esther katongo said this follows an operation conducted by officers from Chilenje police the last two weeks.
“Property recovered include 14 Television sets, 40 assaulted mobile phones and tablets, assorted decoders , three grinding machines, laptops, house breaking implements and five motor vehicles used in committing crimes,” said Katongo.
She said most of the items were recovered from Msisi and Chibolya compounds as well as Matero township.
“Among the 12 suspects who are currently detained in police custody, five have been charged with theft of motor vehicles and for being found in possession of property suspected to have been stolen while seven are facing three counts of aggravated robbery and for being found with property suspected to have been stolen,” she said.
Katongo has since called upon members of the public who could have lost their properties to go to Chilenje police station and help in identifying the recovered items.
She said Police will continue with such operations in a bid to apprehend more criminals stealing and terrorizing members of the public.
