Blacklist failed contractors – Bwana Mkubwa MP

By Staff Reporter

Bwana Mkubwa PF member of parliament Jonas Chanda has called on the government to blacklist all local and foreign contractors who abandon projects or take too long to complete them.

Speaking after the Ministry of Local Government summoned a contractor, Tripple Vove failure to complete the construction of Old Mushily market in Ndola on Monday, Dr Chanda said such delayed projects were costing the countries billions of kwacha.

He said  for over two years, Tripple V  had failed to complete the project, thereby missing the agreed decline.

“As a result marketeers have been soaked by rains for two years and their businesses and livelihoods have suffered huge losses. The situation has been worsened by the removal of vendors from the streets as there is no alternative trading place to accommodate both displaced marketeers and street vendors,” said Dr Chanda.

“All government ministries to comply with His Excellency President Edgar Lungu’s directive last year in Ndola that contracts for local projects must be awarded to locally based contractors, unless such skills are not locally available. This approach will ensure that contractors are held accountable by local authorities and residents, rather than the case of Triple V, a Lusaka based contractor, who was awarded a contract for construction of a market in Ndola, making accountability almost impossible.”
