COBUSU Opposed to the Reopening of University

THE Copperbelt University Students Union (COBUSU) is opposed to the reopening of the institution until the problem of students room overcrowding is addressed by authorities.
In a statement today, COBUSU president Njikho Musuku said government had failed to satisfy students needs at the university whose primary objective was to study, learn and pursue purposeful careers.
“As representative of COBUSU, I do not only speak on behalf of the students but also represent their interests. In as much as the minister’s reasons for keeping the institutions closed may be valid,” he said. “The ministry’s purpose is to ensure that we are supplied with all the necessary resources to achieve our goals which include building enough hostels to accommodate our basic needs and ensuring a stable administration of our institution, we should not allow individuals with boarding houses to take advantage of vulnerable students and get rich.”
Musuku expressed sadness that the Ministry of Higher Education had neglected it’s duty and responsibilities for which it was created.
“The issue of overcrowding in rooms was not born yesterday, this is in fact a problem birthed by past governments’ failure to implement sustainable development by staying adamant to meeting the ever changing demands of such faculties,” he said.
