A Traditional leader in Katete in Eastern Province has challenged government to quickly address the challenges surrounding the distribution of e-voucher cards in his chiefdom.

Chief Kathumba of the chewa people expressed concern that the farmers had not yet received inputs despite been promised by the government of early delivery.

In a telephone interview, chief Kathumba called on government to quickly distribute the e-voucher cards to the farmers so that they could start accessing farming inputs.

He said the late distribution of the e- voucher cards to the farmers will negatively affect crop production for the 2017/18 farming season.

“There is need for the government to quicken the process so that famers can plant the seeds on time, noting that most farmers in the area have already done the depositing of the K400 needed to access the inputs,” he said

“The fight against hunger will not be achieved if the trend of delaying to distribute farming inputs to the farmers continues and the late payment to farmers.” chief Kathumba said.
