Green Party points at Kampyongo, Luo and Kanganja for injured CBU student’s death

OPPOSITION Green Party leader Peter Sinkamba is holding home affairs minister Stephen Kampyongo, his education counterpart Nkandu Luo and Inspector General Kakoma Kanganja responsible for this morning’s death of a Copperbelt University students injured by the police last week.
“We as the Green Party are extremely saddened by the death this morning of one of the Copperbelt University students who were severely injured by Police last week,” Sinkamba stated in a press release today. “We condemn in the strongest terms the high-handed approach by the police and in particular the use of excessive force on unarmed students. We demand that the Minister of Home Affairs Stephen Kampyongo, Minister of Higher Education Prof Nkandu Luo, and Inspector of General of Police take full responsibility for this dreadful event.”
Sinkamba also expressed the party’s deepest sympathy to all students affected by what he termed a dreadful event, and especially their families.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with friends of the student who has died or those that were injured, some of who are still in intensive care,” he stated. “We hope that serious measures will be taken to bring culprits to book. The law arm of the law should take its course. Meanwhile, we urge the student populace to remain calm during this trying moment.”
