Senior Chief Mweemba of Sinazongwe district this morning sustained severe burns after his palace was set ablaze by unknown people.

Insiders believe the attack on the traditional ruler could have been as a result of continued power struggle where differences surrounding his chieftaincy have deepened as some members of the royal establishment are not happy about the way he was installed as chief.

Southern Province Commissioner of Police Bonny Kapeso identified other victims of the fire that gutted the palace around 03:00 hours as Clement Hantoboolo 37, Paul Sinakatonga 48 and Mubita Mubita 19 who sustained severe burns all over their bodies.

Kapeso has after visiting the scene, it was suspected that petrol could have been the source of the fire, although investigations were still ongoing to establish the cause.

The victims have been taken to Maamba General Hospital where they are currently admitted while the value of the property lost has not been ascertained.
