ZESCO Limited has refuted media reports that it will extend load-shedding periods to eight hours, for the next 15 days.
According to social media reports, ZESCO informed the public about the extended load-shedding periods through its text messages alert system.
According to messaging from Zesco call centre to clients there would a disruption in power supply due to a generator breakdown at Maamba Power Station that feeds the national grid.
“Dear Customer, be advised that one Generator at Maamba Power Station, which feeds into the national grid, is down. Repair works are estimated to take 15days. During this time you will be experiencing additional loadshedding at peak hours. The inconvenience caused is deeply regretted,” reads the message sent last night.
But ZESCO Spokesperson, Henry Kapata said there is need for people to get clarity before issuing false statements.
Kapata said people shouldn’t take seriously statements that are not accredited to anyone.
