Mufulira AVIC employee crushed to death in a concrete mixer

An AVIC International employee in Mufulira has died after being crushed in a concrete mixer.
Confirming the development to newsdayzambia.com, Copperbelt police commissioner Charity Katanga said Edwin Chabu died after his workmate Bernard Mulenga, an operator accidentally switched on the mixer while he was inside cleaning up the machine.
“The incident occurred on August 6, around 16:30 hours at AVIC crusher plant in Mufulira’s Kankoyo Township situated near Mufulira River. The deceased is said to have sustained broken right leg after it was crushed and bleeding from the nose,” said Katanga.
She said the deceased was quickly rushed to Ronald Ross hospital by fellow company employees but was pronounced dead by medical personnel.
“The operator has since been detained for the offence of manslaughter pending investigations. The body of the deceased is lying at Ronald Ross Hospital Mortuary awaiting post-mortem,” she said.
