Re-opening of CBU cheers East CSPR

The Civil Society for Poverty Reduction (CSPR) in Eastern Province has commended government for re-opening of the Copperbelt University (CBU).
CSPR provincial coordinator Samuel Mbewe says the closure of CBU had put students in a desperate situation and compromised quality of education against the sustainable development goals.
“ I urge students to refrain from using violence as a means of expressing their views. Students should instead learn to resolve issues in an amicable manner,” said Mbewe.
Higher education minister Dr Brian Mushimba this week announced that CBU which had been closed for four months would be re-opened on August 19, 2019.
Mushimba stated that the decision to re-open CBU was arrived at after several consultations as well as the fear to have the institution lose its ranking.
