President Edger Lungu has congratulated opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) for winning the Katuba parliamentary by-election on Tuesday.

And Republican Progressive Party president James Lukuku said UPND defied all odds to scoop the Katuba seat.

President Lungu also sent a congratulatory messages to the ruling Patriotic Front for winning all six Local Government by-elections in Lubwa Ward of Kitwe District, Lungwishi Ward of Mansa District, Mayembe Ward of Shiwang’ándu District, Mangango, Shitwa and Kanabilumbu Wards of Kaoma District.

He said the local government election results was a clear reflection of the trust the people had in the PF party.

“I wish to also congratulate the opposition United Party for National Development (UPND) and their candidate Mr. Aubrey Bampi Kapalasa for winning the Katuba Constituency by-election,” said Lungu

He also thanked party members who worked in the Katuba Constituency by elections.

“Our joint performance was impressive and shows that the party is gaining ground. Together with all of you, let us work towards far and better results in 2021. Let’s continue living our motto of One Zambia, One Nation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Lukuku congratulate the UPND with all its foot soldiers for the Katuba victory against the PF’s cooking oil, mealie meal and money votes.

In a statement yesterday Lukuku said the UPND got genuine votes from Zambians interested in progress of the country, while the PF got votes from buying, bribing and corruption.

“The PF used state resources to campaign and bribe people. Brand new Mazda double cabs had their number plates changed from GRZ to private numbers in Katuba. Various gifts were distributed in bribes to the electorate by the PF,” claimed Lukuku.

He said the UPND had nothing to give and all the votes they got were genuine votes.

“We thus, wish to pass our congratulations to the UPND and the hard work and vigilant youths who worked hard to ensure votes were safeguarded from PF criminals,” he said.
