Opposition UPND has retained the Katuba parliamentary seat in a by-election that took place yesterday.

Returning officer Felix Banda declared Aubrey Kapalasa the winner after polling 8,727 votes against Zacks Mwachilele of the Pariotic Front who polled 7,7092 votes while United Prosperous Party candidate polled a paltry 120 votes.

And Kapalasa thanked the people of Katuba for the confidence they had shown in him and the United Party for National Development.

UPND campaign manager Cornelious Mweetwa commended the police for maintaining law and order during the campaign period.

However, PF cadres were briefly detained on the voting day for being in possession of dangerous weapons.

The Katuba parliamentary seat fell vacant following the death Patricia Mwashingwele earlier this year.

Meanwhile, Patriotic Front retained Mayembe ward in Shiwang’andu and Lubwa ward in Kitwe. In Lubwa ward the ruling party polled 1,210 votes followed by UPND with 529 and National Democratic Congress got 213 votes.
