Health worker, 37 dies in Chipata – Mfuwe road accident

One person has died while three others sustained serious injuries in a road traffic accident which occurred on Sunday around 04:30 hours near Chipata fisheries office on  Chipata -Mfuwe road in Eastern Province.

Confirming the development to newdayzambia.com yesterday Zambia police service public relations officer Ester Mwata Katongo  said the accident happened when the driver failed to negotiate a curve due to excessive speed hence lost control of the motor vehicle, hit into a pavement and partially fell into Kasupe stream.

Katongo said involved was a Toyota Vitz registration number ALT 413 reported to have been driven by Kennedy Kanungwe aged 37 years, a male nurse of Muzeyi Rural Health Centre in Chipangali who died on the spot.

“ The injured are female Ketty Nyawali aged 45 years, a deputy head teacher at Mchenja Primary School, male Simon Banda aged 31years, a teacher at Mchenja Primary School and female Kebby Makungu.They are admitted to Chipata Central Hospital,” said Katongo.
