FDD want water bodies awarded to Zambians
Forum for Democracy and Development (FDD) is concerned with the growing tendency of awarding water rights to foreign investors in the Aquaculture sector at the expense of Zambians.
In a statement, FDD Chairperson for Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Emack Kaoma urged government to review the policy and empower Zambians with water rights or allow partnership with foreign investors in order to increase capital investment in their fishing business.
“FDD believes that the Aquaculture sector if properly managed can significantly be used as an effective tool to address high levels of poverty and inequality in the country and undoubtedly contribute to Zambia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP),”kaoma said.
He said once the party was elected into power in 2021, it will ensure that fish farmers are empowered with hatcheries, stock feed and cold storage facilities in all the ten (10) provinces as a deliberate policy to boost fish production and job creation in the country especially in rural areas where poverty is more pronounced.
Kaoma said it as important that home grown investments are supported if the country had to attain meaningful economic development.
