Nakonde woman dumps baby in Nakonde stream

Police in Nakonde District, Muchinga Province are looking for unknown woman involved in a case of infanticide.
Muchinga Province Police Commissioner Joel Njase told newsdayzambia.com yesterday that a newly born baby was believed to have been dumped in Nakonde stream this week by a runaway mother.
Njase said it was believed that the act took place on unknown date but between July 20 2019, and July 24 at 10:00 hours at Nakonde stream near Chambeshi dam along old Nakonde Great North Road in Mukoma Village, Chief Waitwika’s area.
“ Unknown person did dump a baby in the Nakonde Stream after giving birth. Acting on this report, the officers visited the scene and the findings are that, the dead body was that of newly born baby. It was found floating in the stream facing downwards with an umbilical cord still attached to the body,” said Njase.
“The body was physically inspected and it was identified as a baby girl, it had no physical injuries. The body has since been collected from the scene of crime and deposited at Nakonde Urban Clinic Mortuary awaiting post-mortem examination,” he said
The police commissioner disclosed that an inquiry file has been opened and the officers are doing everything possible in order to apprehend the suspect.
