Lungu makes reshuffles, fires Mawere

PRESIDENT Edgar Chagwa Lungu says he will not hesitate to part ways with underperforming ministers.
Announcing Cabinet reshuffles that have seen the exit of Moses Mawere as Sports minister, President Lungu said he wanted to rejuvenate the performance of his ministers because overstaying in one position might affect their performance.
Announcing the development, Special Assistant to the President for Press and Public Relations Isaac Chipampe revealed that the strategic Infrastructure ministry would now be headed by Vincent Mwale while Ronald Chitotela would now spearhead the ministry of tourism.
President Lungu has elevated Ndola Central Member of Parliament Emmanuel Mulenga from the back bench to a full cabinet portfolio heading the Ministry of Youth and Sports.
Meanwhile, Chipampe said that the President observed with concern that some Ministers had not been visiting their constituencies regularly to ensure Government projects and programmes were implemented and monitored.
“The President said if this is allowed to continue our citizens will believe that Government has abandoned them and therefore, the President has urged all Ministers to ensure they visit their constituents regularly,” he said.
“The President has terminated the appointment of Hon. Moses Mawere as Minister of Youth, Sport and Child Development and has since appointed Ndola Central Member of Parliament Hon Emmanuel Mulenga as the new Minister to take over from Hon. Mawere.
The President has transferred Minister in the Office of the Vice-President Hon. Sylvia Bambala Chalikosa to the Ministry of Works and Supply while her counterpart at the same Ministry Hon. Mutotwe Kafwaya has since been transferred to the Ministry of Transport and Communications with immediate effect.”
Other Ministers who have been transferred with immediate effect include, Professor Nkandu Luo who has been moved from higher education to the Ministry of Fisheries and Livestock, while her counterpart Dr Brian Mushimba at Transport and Communications takes over from her.
Minister at the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure Ronald Chitotela moves to the Ministry of Tourism and Arts where Romel Charles Banda was minister before his transfer Ministry of Local Government.
Local government minister Vincent Mwale, has since been transferred to the Ministry of Housing and Infrastructure Development while Fisheries minister Kampamba Mulenga Chewe, moves to Ministry of Community Development and Social Services and Olipa Phiri has been transferred to the Office of the Vice-President in the same capacity.
