Malupenga urges Zambians to take responsibility of Keep Zambia Clean campaign

Ministry of Local Government Permanent Secretary, Amos Malupenga, has implored Zambians to own the Make Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy programme.
Malupenga observed that the campaign had not yielded the intended results since it was re-launched by President Edgar Lungu in April 2017.
He said the campaign had not gotten to the local communities and that people only participated in the monthly cleaning activities when the President was taking part.
“The President just gives us support but the onus is on all citizens to take the campaign as theirs if we are to achieve the desired results, Councillors are key in mobilising people in their respective wards to participate in the monthly Make Zambia Clean, Green and Healthy cleaning exercise,” said Malupenga
He said Councillors were expected to always be in contact with the people at local level which made it easy for them to mobilise people for cleaning activities.
He also emphasized that the general public refrain from relying on handouts such as money in order to participate in the cleaning process.
He observed that if people continue to demand money in order for them to clean, it would be difficult to achieve the objective of keeping Zambia clean.
