Newly appointed Finance minister Dr. Bwalya Ngándu says he will work towards restoring the fiscal health of the country.

Dr. Ng’andu, who was Central bank Deputy Governor until his appointment last week said once fiscal health was restored, government would be able to address the current income and expenditure challenges.

“This will in turn put more liquidity into the economy and enable it to start generating the wealth that the country desires,” he said.

Dr. Ngándu has also disclosed plans of continued engagement with the international Monetary Fund (IMF) for a bailout programme.

He noted that government needed to do certain things right including restoring fiscal health, to be able to engage the institution.

Dr. N gándu said there was need to constructively engage the IMF and agree on a programme that can be implemented.

“Even if a program is not agreed, we will be keen on discussing with the institution about areas of engagement,” he said.
