A Chinsali resident of Muchinga Province Nkweto Kasonka says that Dr Fred M’membe has always been on the side of the poor people.

Kasonka told NewsdayZambia.com this morning that Dr M’membe played a major role in the re-introduction of democracy which was being abused.

“He was running a weekly post then. He sacrificed his life and that of his family to ensure that Dr Kenneth Kaunda was removed from office. Fred M’membe must be appreciated by even those people in PF for he made them to be where they are today,” he said

“They are there because he helped us to remove movement for multiparty democracy (MMD) out of power. So, I think the closure of Post Newspapers and the continued persecution of Dr Fred M’membe is now a source of worry to all well-meaning citizens of this country”.

On Saturday aabout 30 uniformed police officers raided the home to Dr. Fred M’membe in Mwika Village in Shiwang’andu District, Muchinga province.

Socialist Party General Secretary Dr Cosmas Musumali said the police officers broke the gate to the house and forcibly chased all people who were present.

“No search or arrest warrant was provided. They have currently occupied the house and are not stating the reason for their action,” he explained. “Onlookers are suggesting that the house is being vandalised”.

Dr. M’membe is Socialist Party 2021 presidential candidate was at the time addressing a rally at Nsansa grounds in Kitwe.
