COBUSU president expelled

Copperbelt University Students Union president Lawrence Kasonde has been expelled from the institution.

Kasonde, a fourth year student in Mining Engineering, has been expelled alongside other students for allegedly masterminding the protest that led to the indefinite closure of the institution almost three months ago.

The students had, however, apologized to higher education minister Professor Nkandu Luo and President Edgar Lungu over the protest.

Meanwhile, management has thrown out an appeal by the expelled students and upheld Prof Luo’s decision to expel the students.

CBU vice chancellor Professor Naison Ngoma, in a letter dated June 17, 2019 and addressed to Kasonde, stated that the decision was final.

“After a careful consideration of your case, I write to inform you that your appeal was unsuccessful and the earlier decision made by the university and conveyed by the Registrar in the letter dated 25th April 2019 is hereby upheld,” stated Prof Ngoma.
