By Staff Reporter

ELEVEN male juveniles and a 20-year-old man have appeared in the Lusaka Magistrates’ Court for  aggravated robbery involving over K1,000.
Descent Kabuba, 20, unemployed, and 11 juveniles among them pupils, are facing five counts of aggravated robbery.
The juveniles are aged between 18 and 20.
Allegations in the counts are that the accused persons on May 21 this year stole phones, assorted drinks, eggs, cigarettes, mineral water, 66 batches of flowers and popcorns valued at over K1,000.
The stolen items were properties of Stelia Banda, Stanley Mulenga, Florence Champo, Ideas Mumba and Agness Muyamba and further allegations are that the accused threatened or used actual violence in order to get the items.
When the accused appeared before magistrate Felix Kaoma, he explained the charge to them to which they said they understood.
Magistrate Kaoma however, informed the 12 accused persons that they were not going to take plea because the offence of aggravated robbery was tried by the High Court and the accused were a mixture of adults and juveniles.
He adjourned the case to June 28 for mention as they await for instructions from the Director of Public Prosecution ( DPP ).
The magistrate urged the prosecution to ensure that the instructions  were  issued by June 28 to speed up the case because the 12 accused would add to the congestion in the correctional facilities.
