Kambwili denies racial remarks charge

CHISHIMBA Kambwili has pleaded not guilty to a charge of expressing racial remarks to an Indian national who was operating a road compactor.
In this matter, Kambwili, who is National Democratic Congress president and former Roan PF member of parliament is charged with one count of expressing or showing hatred, ridicule or contempt for persons because of race contrary to the laws of Zambia.
Allegations are that Kambwili on February 19this year, expressed racial remarks on Rajesh Kumar Verma, an Indian national.
Taking plea before magistrate Sylvia Munyinya on Tuesday, Kambwili denied the charge.
Magistrate Munyinya has adjourned the case to July 12 for a mention while trial is set to commence on August 7.
Kambwili was charged for the offence in February after a video in which he uttered the alleged racial remarks went viral.
