OPPOSITION Socialist Party on the Copperbelt has demanded for the re-opening of the Copperbelt University within three weeks.
In a statement to newsdayzambia.com Copperbelt provincial spokesperson Joseph Kangwa noted with sadness the Patriotic Front was trying to take away the right to education from the young people whose parents were the poor working class.
Kangwa said it was unacceptable for the PF regime, especially Education minister Prof. Nkandu Luo to show symptoms of ignorance on the importance of education and the impact it has to the economy in the nation.
“We the Socialist Party with our visionary and courageous leader, the incoming president Dr Fred M’membe, when we get into power in 2021, we shall not hesitate to reform the education system and come-up with the policy that will allow every Zambian to have access to education for free from nursery to university/college; for we believe that every child is special and has the right to education regardless of his or her family economic status,” said Kangwa
He said the Socialist Party on the Copperbelt, demand the re-opening of the university in three weeks.
“Otherwise we challenge them to come out publicly and tell the nation that they have failed to run the government universities and that they would rather fund By-Elections than investing in education and paying salaries to the lecturers, staff and all the workers at CBU,” he said.
The CBU was closed on April 5, 2019 following students unrest as demanded for improved conditions at the institution.
