ZIIMA demands for recapitalisation of Times of Zambia

Zambia Institute of Independent Media Alliance (ZIIMA) has expressed concern by government’s failure to recapitalise Times of Zambia whose workers have gone for more than seven months without pay.
In a statement, ZIIMA president Jajah Coulibally said the state in which workers at the state-owned media house was shameful.
Coulibally accused Times of Zambia of planning to defrenchise the workers by forfeiting their owed salaries.
“These arrears have been carried over for five years and next year they will clock six years,” he said. “The finance department plans to write off these arrears as bad debt meaning that journalists and other workers there would have done voluntary work for seven months,” he said.
He added that the 2019 budget clearly shows that government will recapitalise state owned enterprises like the Times of Zambia, Zambia Daily Mail and Zamtel.
