By Staff Reporter
LUSAKA principal resident magistrate David Simusamba today warned that he will at the next sitting proceed with trial with or without Chishimba Kambwili’s defence lawyers.
The magistrate noted that it was unbecoming of Kambwili’s defence lawyers; Keith Mweemba, Gilbert Phiri and Christopher Mundia to give excuses for the matter to be adjourned when it comes up.
Kambwili, a former Roan member of parliament is in this case charged with three counts of forgery, uttering of false documents and giving of false information to a public officer.
This is in a relation to the registration of Mwamona Engineering and Technical Services Limited, a company believed to be Kambwili’s.
Trial failed to proceed today despite State prosecutor Mukuma Chipawa indicating that they were ready.
However, Precious Munthali from CL Mundia and Company applied to have the matter adjourned because Kambwili’s lawyers were all indisposed.
Magistrate Simusamba before granting the application, noted that it was unbecoming for Kambwili ‘s lawyers to seek adjournments.
He said he will proceed to hear the case at the next hearing with or without the lawyers and adjourned it to June 6.
