Kabwata man appears in court for burning to death car mirror suspected thief

A 37-YEAR-OLD man of Lusaka’s Kabwata area on Friday appeared in the Magistrates’ Court for allegedly burning to death a man suspected to have stolen his motor vehicle side view mirrors.
Richard Maluti, a mechanic is charged with murder and allegations are that on April 30, 2019 in Lusaka, he murdered Derrick Simwase, 38.
Further allegations are that on the material day, the deceased attempted to steal a side view mirror from Maluti’s motor vehicle before a mob led by the accused pounced on him and set him ablaze.
Maluti’s murder charge will be explained to him by magistrate Mwandu Sakala.
According to a statement by Police deputy spokesperson Rae Hamoonga, Simwase was taken to Clans Night Club by Maluti where he was set ablaze after petrol was poured over him.
Hamoonga had confirmed that Simwase was admitted around 07:30 hours the same day at the University Teaching Hospital and died later around 13:30.
