Minister of Works and Supply Mutotwe Kafwaya says Government is committed to creating an enabling environment for private companies to drive the economy.<\/p>\n
And Larfage has announced plans to construct a cement fly ash blending factory in Maamba, Southern Province.<\/p>\n
Speaking when Lafarge Chief Executive Officer and Managing Director Jimmy Khan paid a courtesy call on him, Kafwaya said participation of private entities such as Larfage in the Zambia economy could not be over emphasised.<\/p>\n
Kafwaya was responding to Khan who said his firm had an opportunity of having 1,400 applicants for internship last year.<\/p>\n
He said a stronger partnership with the cement firm in the quest for development and maintenance works would guarantee sustainability.<\/p>\n
He said most of the buildings currently in use were very old and required renewal by way of pulling them down and replace them with new ones.<\/p>\n
On climate change, Kafwaya expressed his passion on the need to protect the environment.<\/p>\n
He said climate change was real, which should be taken seriously and contribute towards smart thinking so that the production of goods and services was friendly to the environment.<\/p>\n
And Khan revealed that Larfage had embarked on a partnership programme with Maamba Collieries that would see the construction of a cement fly ash blending factory in Southern Province.<\/p>\n

He said once there was legislation in place to compel Africa\u2019s cement companies to use fly ash, it would be a good opportunity to explore the sector that would also help in creating more jobs.<\/p>\n
