{"id":9196,"date":"2019-03-25T11:20:53","date_gmt":"2019-03-25T11:20:53","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/newsdayzambia.com\/?p=9196"},"modified":"2019-03-25T11:21:37","modified_gmt":"2019-03-25T11:21:37","slug":"2019-kuomboka-cancelled-due-to-low-water-levels","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/newsdayzambia.com\/?p=9196","title":{"rendered":"2019 Kuomboka cancelled due to low water levels"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>By Staff Reporter<\/p>\n<p>The Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) has cancelled this year\u2019s Kuomboka traditional ceremony of the Lozi people of Western Province due to low water levels on the Zambezi River.<\/p>\n<p>BRE\u00a0Ngambela Manyando Mukela said although preparations for the ceremony started on a high note, it was regrettable that this year\u2019s annual ceremony had to be cancelled.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThe water levels on the Barotse flood plains have remained below the normal level this time of the year,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p>The Ngambela said that the survey conducted by the kuomboka\/kufuluhela committee headed by induna Mukulwakashiko established that water levels are not good enough for the event.<\/p>\n<p>He has however assured supporters and well-wishers that the donations accrued so far will be accounted for and saved for the next Kuomboka ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>Mukela has however expressed gratitude to all Kuomboka\/ Kufuluhela committees and partners for their invaluable support towards the colourful ceremony.<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>By Staff Reporter The Barotse Royal Establishment (BRE) has cancelled this year\u2019s Kuomboka traditional ceremony of the Lozi people of Western Province due to low water levels on the Zambezi River.
