The Lusaka City Council has given Hybrid Company a 60-days grace period to remove the chicken statute at the traffic circle on Great East Road.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lusaka Mayor, Miles Sampa said the 60 days period is to allow the company contruct a suitable stand for the statue outside the round-about.<\/span><\/p>\n

Sampa said after considering submissions by Hybrid management and members of the public a decision was arrived at to give an extension.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

“This is to give Hybrid more time to build a new chicken statue outside the roundabout as I am told the current one cannot be craned out without destroying it. We envisage it will be possible by the end of the 60 days to vision two big chickens there one inside and another outside the circle,\u201d said Sampa<\/span><\/p>\n

He said thereon the council can “kill” the inner circle chicken.<\/span><\/p>\n

“Hybrid would still have rights to maintain the entire roundabout. I will also ensure they get a written contract unlike at the moment where they have non for some reason,\u201d Sampa said. \u201cWith this approach, I reckon we would have struck a win for LCC, Hybrid Chickens and the general public\u201d.\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Lusaka residents had taken to social media opposing the intended move to remove the apparently beloved but awkward statue.<\/span><\/p>\n

They said the statute represented a well-known feature of Lusaka and that the action gave moral support to a resilient local company that has survived stiff foreign competition.<\/span><\/p>\n
